Introduction- Critical Care Unit Accreditation
Critical care nursing is an exciting and challenging field. It has gone through enormous changes during the last two decades. There are a range of Critical care specialties where critical care nurses may work including surgical, trauma, coronary, medical, pediatric, burns, cardiothoracic and high risk area. Critical care nurses must uphold a certain level of quality in their practice. Improving their bedside practice occurs through quality improvement, being involved at the unit and organizational level. Moreover, with accreditation picking up momentum, in health care there is shift towards Focusing on standards of Nursing Care. Therefore Critical Care Nurses Society has become committed to improving standards of Critical Care Nursing in India.
At first step towards achieving the same, training programs are conducted extensively at national level, so that critical care Nurses are empowered with Knowledge and develop Competency. This effort is the second step of the CCNS to establish Critical Care Nursing Practice standards which can be applied to all Critical care units of the country.
Nursing Standards are professionally developed expressions of the range of acceptable variations from a norm or criterion to provide competent care. They reflect a desired and achievable level of performance against which actual performance can be compared. Critical Care Nursing Practice Standards have been framed with a main purpose to promote, guide and direct professional nursing practice in Critical Care Units. It is designed to provide essential resources to all nursing personnel in their pursuit for best practices. The frame work for Critical Care Nursing Practice Standards is Nursing Process.
These Critical Care Nursing Practice Standards are applicable to all critical care Units in the health care Organizations.

CCNS Certification Procedure

Download the Application form from the website for applying for accreditation
Application will be valid from date of application to 90 days. -
Application to be posted to CCNS
Fees to be submitted along with application (via RTGS/NEFT) - Tool Kit (Book of critical care practice standards) would be posted to the institution
- On receipt of application & fees, CCNS will schedule the Assessors visit the institution (in 90 days time)

Assessment will be done by 2 asessors for a day.
Assessors submits the report to managing committee on the same day or the next day. - A designated period of closure would be given to the institution to submit the noncompliance report.
- The assessors report will be presented to the managing committee and final report would be done.
